Does Powder Coating Come with a Warranty?

Powder coating doesn’t typically come with a formal warranty, but shops like Powder Craft will stand behind the service and finished work and help resolve issues when they come up. Powder manufacturers may warranty their products on a case-by-case basis, but it also depends on the issue. For example, damage caused by negligence or acts of nature isn’t warrantied. As a general rule, a manufacturer addressing a problem with the coating itself is different than damage caused to the item after it leaves the shop.

How Long Does Powder Coating Last?

There isn’t one answer to how long powder coating lasts for any object. Powder coating is durable, but it is possible to damage it under enough stress or harsh conditions. The existing condition of the item and how you use it after it leaves the shop also matter. Off-road items exposed to road debris, heat and chemicals are going to look different than powder coated metal artwork that hangs in your home office.

What to Do If You Have a Problem With Your Powder Coating?

If you notice an issue with your powder coating, don’t immediately sand, strip, touch up, or paint over the impacted area. Take clear photos that show both the problem and the surrounding powder coated finish. Give our team at Powder Craft a call and explain what’s going on.

We’ll take a look to see if the problem is related to the coating application, outside damage, or something else. If it’s an issue with the application, we stand by our work and do our best to make the problem right. Even if we didn’t work on the item, we can advise whether or not it’s practical to re-strip and reapply a finish or how it can be resolved.

Is accidental damage covered after something is powder coated?

No, Powder Craft doesn’t warranty damage caused by negligence, such as impacts, scraping, improper handling, or other damage that happens after the finished item leaves our shop. Powder coating is durable, but it is possible to damage it under enough stress or harsh conditions.

Is weather or storm damage covered?

No, Powder Craft doesn’t warranty against acts of nature, which includes damage caused by severe weather or other events outside of our control. If you’re not sure whether or not you’re looking at environmental damage or a problem with the coating itself, send us some photos and we’ll help you figure out what may have happened.

What should I do if my powder coating starts peeling or doesn’t look right?

Take a few clear photos and contact Powder Craft before trying to repair the area yourself. Let us know when you first noticed the problem and whether anything happened to the item beforehand. We’ll look at the situation and help you determine whether or not there’s an issue with the coating, the finished work, or damage that occurred afterward.
